Interview with Lois Matteoo – Creator of “Corrupted Souls”
- by admin
This interview was conducted by moderator PenyLn.
Penny: Lois, it’s really an honor to get to sit down with you. I have been a follower of your channel for a long time, so it’s amazing to get this opportunity.
Lois: Hello Penny, I’m surprised that you have been a follower of my channel. I appreciate and thank you for inviting me, it’s an honor for me as well to have a chat with you. I haven’t done this in a while so I’m excited.
Penny: How did you discover machinima?
Lois: Well ever since I was a kid, I was already a big fan of The Sims. Back then, I used to watch Sims 2 Building showcases on YouTube. When I was still exploring Sims 2 related content, I came across a Sims 2 series called Pleasantview by Doons99p and that’s how I learned that you can do this type of stuff in the game because back in the days, I used to play the game on console. After watching a few sims films/series and came across Angelbeam19’s series The Boss, I started to create my own which I still enjoy until now.
Penny: What inspired you to write this story? Lois: The story is heavily inspired by The Last of Us and Silent Hill video games. The concepts of these two video games are phenomenal, and it’s like merging them into one with Corrupted Souls. This project is a game changer for me since my previous projects, Cruel Temptation and Marry You, are different in comparison. Back in 2015, I had a goal to explore every genre - so far I have achieved a few genres now: drama, romantic comedy, supernatural, and horror/suspense. Penny: Your color grading and film shots really are breath-taking to watch. Can you tell us about your editing process? Lois: Thank you Penny. As much as possible, I really want the coloring of every episode to align with the theme of the series. For the coloring, I use a specific template from the MagicBullets plugin in Sony Vegas. But in a later episode, you will notice that I’m now using reshade graphics. Penny: Your sets for your show are very realistic and well put together. How long is your process for set building and how difficult is it to recreate sets that look very real? Lois: Some of my sets were either premade sets from the game, or I downloaded them from ModTheSims, and then I just changed them to something very grungy which was heavily inspired from The Last of Us. Creating or recreating sets may take a day or more, it really depends if you’re motivated and have enough energy to do it. Penny: What are some of your favorite scenes in the episode? Lois: One of my favorite scenes in the episode is when Alistair and Justus finally meet. I’ve been keeping their true relationship a secret for months, so I was happy and satisfied with the viewer's reactions after revealing that they were brothers. Penny: Do you have a favorite character in your film? Lois: My favorite character would be Justus. I’m heavily invested in his character and some of his personality is based on mine. Penny: Your soundtrack suits the mood perfectly for your episode, what is the process you use to pick music? Lois: Choosing the right soundtrack for a certain scene is really hard, especially when it’s a subtitled series. Unlike in a voice over series, the main key there is to capture the emotion of the characters with the right music. Penny: How did you feel with the feedback that the judges gave? Lois: I’m satisfied with their feedback and I’m very glad that they enjoy the series. Penny: Can you tell me about your future projects? Lois: Well I have another one in production. I just uploaded a teaser on Christmas day, and if you have watched it, you’ll notice that it’s a Fantasy genre this time, which is going to be another game changer for me. 😉 Penny: Do you have any closing statements? Lois: Thank you for having me here, and I really enjoy talking with you. To all aspiring sims directors like me, just keep doing what you’re doing, as long as you enjoy making films with sims, that means you’re doing great! So keep it up!
This time I want to explore more of the action and mystery genre. So, when my best friend Angelbeam19 and I were talking, I came up with an idea on making a post-apocalyptic series similar to her series Forsaken Souls and make it a connecting but standalone series.
